Gemotions

The lilies arrived just as the rain started. She pulled them inside, shaking the water from the stems. She didn't know the sender, but the gesture landed hard in her chest.

She went to the piano and played a piece she hadn't touched since her grandmother had passed. The notes flowed from her, filling the room. It had been hard lately; the flowers, though, offered a lifeline.

As the music faded, she felt something unclench inside. She carefully wrapped each stem in damp paper, preparing them for the night. She made a silent promise to pay it forward, and to try to be kinder, starting today.
