The rustle of leaves was the only sound as Maya listened to Ms. Bell's proposal. The air seemed lighter, easier to breathe. She hadn't realized how much she craved this kind of human contact.

The idea of helping, of sharing her property, of experiencing this new thing made her feel light, full of energy. She saw herself spending time with her neighbor, enjoying conversation, and the shared pleasure of the garden.
