“How dare they!” Richard's voice was a low growl. He clutched the biography, *Richard’s Rise: A Testament to Tenacity*, so tightly his knuckles were white. The book painted him as a self-made man. It glossed over the shortcuts, the favors owed, the underhanded deals. Now he had a chance. He could use this false narrative. He could parlay his newfound fame into even more influence, more power, more… things. He imagined the applause, the accolades, the deference. A thrill coursed through him.
