The new recruit, a young woman named Clara, was asking too many questions. Henry felt a pressure building in his temples.

"The filing system is… straightforward," he said, omitting the hidden shortcuts that he'd carefully developed over the years.

He deliberately provided confusing instructions, reveling in Clara’s frustration. He felt a thrill when she made a mistake.

Clara was making it obvious he would be quickly replaced. The thought sent a jolt of alarm through him. He wouldn't make things easy, not if he could help it.
