The world seemed to shrink around Daniel. He had the best of everything now. He had friends, a social life, the attention he’d always craved, all fueled by the scholarship. The university's announcement of a mix-up was a punch to the gut. The thought of losing the status, the ease, the perceived prestige, made him feel nauseous. He refused to contemplate giving it up. He wouldn't let anyone take this from him, not without a fight. His fists clenched, nails biting into his palms.
