The quilting club was a source of great comfort to Martha. The rhythmic needlework, the vibrant colors, the shared camaraderie – it had been a constant in her life for years. Now, her granddaughter, Lily, was showing a keen interest, producing quilts that rivaled Martha’s own. The young girl was a great talent.

Martha, usually the most generous with her skills, found herself withholding. She "forgot" patterns and hid away her finest fabrics. When Lily asked for advice, Martha offered vague suggestions. She could feel the heat rising in her neck.

During a club meeting, Lily showed off a quilt that was a beautiful array of floral patterns. Martha felt a strange tightness in her chest. She excused herself, claiming a headache. The beautiful quilt made her heart ache.
