He re-read the words, the ink a faded echo of his mother's ambitions. “Go to space…Learn to play chess…Marry someone famous.” The list, a testament to unfulfilled desires. For him, the time had come.

Space travel? It was expensive, but within his grasp. He’d been working for years. The chess lessons, were already booked. Marrying someone famous? He had some connections.

He imagined himself, a figure of influence, of wealth and status. His mother's dream of a better life would be his reality. He would have everything. The inheritance, all of it, was the means. It felt like destiny.
