The worn paper felt brittle beneath Leo's fingertips. He’d stumbled upon the list tucked inside a drawer, hidden beneath a pile of old photographs. "See a Broadway show," it read, in Clara's sprawling handwriting. "Learn to paint. Start a garden. Buy a piece of original art." Leo felt a tightness in his chest.

The art. That was the thing. Clara adored art. And so did he. He remembered the galleries they used to visit together. He ran his hand through his hair. He could buy something. Something beautiful. He closed his eyes, already picturing it hanging on the wall of his new place.

He would have to do some research, of course.
