The email was a siren song. It had his essay, “The Symphony of Silence,” on display. The thought of all those eyes reading his words made him giddy. He felt a constant pull toward the page, a need to check the stats, the comments. He went to his local coffee shop, then, and casually mentioned his essay to anyone who would listen. He imagined the conversations, the looks of impressed envy. He reveled in the thought of others struggling for that level of acclaim. He wanted to own it.
