The aroma of freshly baked bread, a smell that once filled the house with warmth, now felt like a taunt. The secret phone calls had shattered everything. He sat at the kitchen table, staring at the untouched loaf, barely able to breathe.

He avoided eye contact, his gaze drifting aimlessly around the room. He felt an unbearable pressure in his chest, making it difficult to draw a breath. He’d stopped showering. He’d stopped caring.

He found himself wandering the halls, touching pictures, the memories now tainted by the knowledge of betrayal. He felt hollow, as if a part of him had been ripped away, leaving a gaping wound.
