The world was muted, the colors washed out, just like her appetite. She hadn’t eaten in two days. The knot in her stomach tightened as she stared at the empty space where the old Mustang usually sat. A void.

The note was stark, impersonal. “Unauthorized parking. Towed.” Her hand trembled as she crumpled the flimsy paper. It felt like another theft, another piece of her ripped away.

She wandered towards the street, a sense of aimlessness plaguing her. The asphalt was hot, the sun a relentless presence. She just wanted to sit in the car, to feel the ghost of his presence one last time. Now, even that was gone.
