He stared at the hospital ceiling, the harsh fluorescent lights blurring through unshed tears. The nurse’s voice, explaining the mix-up, seemed to come from another planet. His wife, Sarah, was gone. Buried. And now, he was told the treatments, the hope he’d clung to, had been for someone else. A wave of nausea washed over him, a physical manifestation of the devastation that had consumed him.
