He found the Rosetta Stone CD-ROM, still in its shrink-wrap. He held it in his hands, staring at the Spanish lesson program and the box's bright colors. A wave of heat washed over him, followed by a cold, icy dread. He couldn't breath. Sarah had always been terrible at languages. She was never interested in anything outside of her life.

He walked over to the window, unable to keep himself from looking. He saw the empty street, the empty life he now had. The apartment was too quiet, the absence of laughter a physical presence. He wanted to scream, but the words wouldn't come. He just stood there, frozen.
