Gemotions

The notepad had been shoved under the passenger seat of her car. He pulled it out, his fingers fumbling with the cover. Inside, a jumble of neat handwriting – German. He didn't know the first word. The world tilted on its axis, and everything felt wrong. She had said she hated German.

He sat in the driver's seat, the engine cold, the air stale. He stared out at the parking lot, the rows of empty spaces. He felt a churning in his stomach, a burning sensation in his throat. He wished she was here. He wanted to scream. He was alone.
