The sign, freshly painted, proclaimed "Farewell, Sweet Delights." The words blurred before Thomas's eyes. He stood across the street, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. The ice cream shop wasn't just an ice cream shop; it was where he’d taken his daughter every summer after the school year.

He felt a sudden, sharp pain in his chest, like a cramp that wouldn't release. He felt an intense wave of nausea, a churning in his stomach that had him wanting to run. His daughter’s laughter, the sticky sweetness of the cones, the way her eyes would light up with joy – all memories now tinged with a painful ache.

He slowly walked toward it, each step heavy. He knew this was the end of a chapter. He stopped at the entrance, peering inside. The empty space felt both enormous and cramped.
