Gemotions

The invitation felt heavy in her hand, the glossy paper a stark contrast to the dust motes dancing in the afternoon sun. She hadn’t expected it. Twenty years. Two decades since she walked those hallowed halls, before life had a gaping hole in it. A tremor ran through her, leaving her suddenly cold despite the summer heat. She crumpled the card, then smoothed it out, smoothing it out again. She wondered if they'd have a moment of silence. She wondered if anyone would notice her absence, or the absence that followed her everywhere.
