He stared at the television, the screen showing a cooking competition. The dish: "Grandpa Joe's Chili." The host, a charismatic man with a booming voice, was praising the contestant's "original" creation.

His hands gripped the arms of the chair so tightly his knuckles were white. The recipe, his grandpa’s, was now a public spectacle. He remembered the smell of the chili simmering on the stove, the hours spent with his grandfather.

He struggled to breathe, the air seemed thick in the room. He felt a deep, hollow feeling. The contestant’s chili, though similar, lacked that special something, the love and care. He knew. He could tell.

He wanted to scream, to shout. But he could only sit there, a silent observer of the theft. The loss was a burning ember in his chest. A constant reminder of what he'd lost.
