He wanted to scream. He wanted to break everything. John found his journal again, now hidden under his roommate’s pillow. The words he’d poured onto those pages – the raw, vulnerable truth of his situation – now defiled. He felt hollow, as if someone had scooped out his insides. His hands were shaking so badly, he could barely pick up his phone. He wanted to call his mother, but the thought of forming words, of explaining the immense, suffocating weight, felt impossible. He slumped onto the edge of his bed, utterly defeated.
