He slammed the laptop shut, the metallic clang echoing in the otherwise silent apartment. The DNA results, stark and undeniable, had turned his world upside down. He had built his life on a foundation of love and family, a foundation that now felt like quicksand.

He pulled at his hair, the strands offering no comfort. His parents, the people he'd loved his whole life…they weren't his parents. The thought was a physical blow, stealing the air from his lungs. He walked to the window, unable to bear the confines of his apartment any longer.

Outside, the city roared, a symphony of indifference. He sank to a bench in the park, watching the children play, their laughter a painful reminder of what he had lost. He didn’t want to be here. He wanted to go anywhere but here.
