He slammed his fist on the table, startling the few people in the nearly empty lecture hall. Mark pushed back his chair and stalked out, ignoring the concerned glances. He’d lost control. The scholarship, his one way out, was gone. He felt the familiar anger bubbling within him, a volcanic eruption threatening to consume him.

The campus, once a place of possibility, now felt like a cage. He needed to get away, to escape the crushing weight of his disappointment. He headed towards the gym, his pace quickening with each stride, hoping to find some relief in the physical exertion, but the ache in his chest remained.
