Gemotions

The house felt cold, even with the fireplace roaring. Daniel was trying to find something, anything, to distract him. His wife, Maria, loved the holidays. Last year, they had set up a beautiful tree, her laughter filling the house. This year, everything felt flat. He found himself looking at their son, Sam’s, phone to find a phone number. He didn't know who else to call. He saw another social media account, filled with posts about music, about feelings. It was raw and open. There were photographs of Sam, posed and cool, with a group of friends Daniel had never seen. He had a look he hadn't seen.

Daniel walked away, his hands shaking. He felt like he'd been punched.
