The sunlight sliced through the gaps in the blinds, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air of the apartment. Sarah was supposed to be sorting through her grandmother's things, a task she’d been putting off since the funeral. The task felt like an impossible burden.

She stumbled across a worn, leather-bound briefcase in a closet. Inside, nestled amongst important papers and forgotten trinkets, was the letter. A draft, written on heavy parchment paper, her grandmother's carefully crafted words describing her reasons for leaving her teaching position. She remembered her grandmother, always so composed, so in control. The letter painted a different picture: a woman struggling against a system that didn't value her.

Sarah’s fingers traced the elegant cursive. It was a letter written by a stranger, one she had never truly known. A hollow ache spread through her. A silent scream built within her, a pressure that sought release. She buried her face in her hands, her shoulders shaking, the parchment paper now crumpled in her grasp.
