The apartment was filled with an oppressive silence. After her father’s passing, Julia had been tasked with the impossible, the daunting task of clearing out his apartment. She felt as though she were living in a fog, her actions dictated by some sense of duty.

She unearthed the letter from the bottom drawer of her father's desk. The resignation letter. The details, the reasons. The career, the frustrations, the disappointments, all neatly printed on the page. Julia felt as though someone had removed the very ground from beneath her feet.

She sank to the floor, her hands pressed against her mouth, trying to stifle the sound that threatened to escape. The room was spinning. The letter slipped from her grasp and landed on the cold, wooden floor. Her vision blurred.
