The rain hammered against the windows, mirroring the storm raging inside him. Liam sat in the living room, the flickering fireplace doing little to warm him. The house felt vast and hollow without her laughter echoing through the halls. He had been avoiding her office, fearing what he might find. The will was clear, he had to take care of her accounts. Inside a locked drawer, he discovered a small box, a velvet ring box containing a bank statement.

He stood up abruptly, pacing the room, his agitation growing with each step. He clutched the statement in his hand, feeling the paper crinkle under his grip.
