Gemotions

The rhythmic chanting from next door had been a constant companion since it had happened. They were always doing something now, always being so...busy. The door bell rang, and it was Mrs. Hernandez, practically vibrating with indignation. “The singing, Daniel! It’s…it's too loud! You can hear it down the street!"

Daniel opened the door, the chill of the evening air hitting him like a blow. He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture automatic, familiar. "I… I apologize," he mumbled, staring at his feet. The choir practice hadn’t been arranged. The hymns were just a part of him now, echoing what had been.

"Well, please," Mrs. Hernandez said, her voice softening, "Just…try to keep it down, dear." And then she was gone. Daniel closed the door, the hymns starting again, quieter now, just for him.
