The first entry on the list read, "Write a novel." Leo choked on a sudden, sharp intake of air. His mother, who had always talked about writing, never had. The paper rustled in his trembling hands. The house felt like a cavern, echoing with unspoken words and unfinished dreams.

He wandered into his mother’s study, the scent of lavender and old books clinging to the air. Her laptop sat on the desk, untouched. He turned it on, the screen flickering to life. A single document was open, titled “Chapter One.” He stared at it, his fingers hovering over the keyboard. A tear splashed onto the screen. He began to type, the words a desperate act of preservation.
