The vibrant colors of the classroom, once a source of energy, now seemed to assault her senses. Miss Evans navigated the hallways with a detached air, her interactions with students polite but hollow. She felt as though she was operating on autopilot. A note was placed on her desk by the school secretary.

The note directed her to a small parcel that had arrived. It was from Mark, a student who had always struggled with art. Inside, wrapped in a simple brown paper, was a canvas, painted with a landscape of mountains. It was breathtakingly beautiful. Her eyes welled up. Mark, who rarely spoke, had conveyed his feelings in color.
