The vast, windswept beach offered little comfort to Emily. The relentless crash of the waves only amplified the echoing emptiness inside her. She walked, head bowed, kicking at the sand, the same routine she performed almost daily since the passing of her grandmother. Her grandmother, her rock. She had stumbled upon a slight dip in the sand, covered in small rocks. She started to dig, her hands raw from the coarse grains.

She uncovered a small, waterproof container. Inside, a sealed message and a small, tarnished locket. The locket opened to reveal a miniature photograph of her grandmother and her grandfather, both young and smiling. She closed her eyes. The sea roared in her ears, the only sound as the tears flowed.
