The first thing I did after hearing the news was slam the bathroom door. My sister, Emily, was a free spirit, always chasing the next bright shiny thing. But this… this felt different.

I leaned against the cool tile, closing my eyes. I could hear the murmur of her voice through the door, the excited lilt. It was… unsettling. I wanted to be alone.

When I emerged, she was standing there, beaming. "I made you a smoothie!" she chirped. The sight of it, bright green and undoubtedly full of something healthy and vaguely unpleasant, made my stomach clench.
