“This is ridiculous,” I grumbled to myself, my voice barely above a whisper. The missed train connection had already set me off, but this… this was the cherry on top. My brother's graduation, the thing I'd waited for years to witness, was now an uncertainty.

I could feel my face burning. I slammed my fist onto the counter, causing a surprised jump from the woman behind it. "Anything you need?" she asked, her voice laced with concern. I just shook my head, unable to speak without snapping.

Every delay announcement was a fresh stab. The vibrant colours and upbeat music of the departure lounge felt like an insult. I felt trapped, imprisoned by circumstances out of my control.
