The phone call from the school had come at the worst possible time, interrupting his concentration. The teacher’s name, Miss Crabtree, was announced with a cheerful tone. He stared blankly at the wall. The same Miss Crabtree who'd constantly mocked his choice of clothes. His fingers tightened around the phone.

He ended the call, his breathing shallow. He felt a familiar knot forming in his chest. He wasn’t looking forward to seeing her, not at all. He rubbed his forehead, the pressure building, as he went back to his work, his mood ruined.
