The sterile white walls of the waiting room closed in on Ben. He shifted restlessly in his chair, the scratchy fabric of the upholstery chafing against his skin. The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, adding to the general sense of unease. A notification. A friend request. From Ashley Reynolds.

Ashley. The girl who made his life hell during those formative years. He could still hear her cutting words, the way she'd make him the butt of every joke. He felt his face flush. He was sure she didn't realize the impact she'd had, or she wouldn't care.

He imagined her now, living a perfect life with a perfect husband, probably. He felt a wave of resentment wash over him. His heart pounded in his chest, a frantic drumbeat against the silence of the room. He slammed his fist on the armrest. He wanted to scream, to lash out.
