The damp chill of the basement seeped into Fiona’s bones. Her brother, David, was happily rummaging through boxes, a smile plastered on his face. Fiona, on the other hand, felt a knot tighten in her stomach.

She just wanted to leave. Everything about the place felt oppressive, heavy with unspoken memories. She stood in the damp and dark basement and felt trapped.

"Look at this!" David exclaimed, holding up a tarnished silver locket. Fiona turned away, her throat closing. She went back upstairs.
