The lecture hall felt colder than usual. Kai, clutched his notes. He felt a sharp throb behind his eyes. The damned journal. The betrayal had left him with a bitter taste in his mouth. He couldn’t seem to concentrate.

His roommate, Alex, the ever-so-genial Alex, had denied everything. But Kai had seen the flicker of guilt in his eyes. The lie stung even more than the action itself. The shared space suddenly felt like a battleground.

He avoided Alex’s gaze, found excuses to stay out of the dorm. The joy he once found in their shared apartment vanished. He felt as though a wound had been opened, one that was slowly, painfully, festering.
