The sales figures were down, the pressure was on, and now this. Emily bit back a string of curses as she read the email. Another company, another merger, another threat to her job. She gripped the edge of her desk, her knuckles turning white. She felt a surge of pure, unadulterated fury.

She needed to release the tension, to channel her energy. She began to rapidly type a response to the email but deleted it immediately. She looked at her phone. She would call her friend, she thought.

Her teeth ground together. The new office layout, the endless meetings, the new corporate overlords. The thought of it all made her feel sick.
