The light in the basement was dim, casting long shadows that danced with every movement. I felt the familiar tightening in my chest. I hated this. Absolutely loathed it. I was in the middle of clearing out my uncle’s house, and everything was a reminder of what he had lost. I sighed, running my fingers over the spine of a dusty book. Then, I found it. A hidden compartment. And within it, a draft letter – my father’s resignation from his band, the group that had, for a brief, glorious time, defined his life. The carefully chosen words, filled with unspoken regret, hit me like a physical blow. I threw the letter on the floor. I wanted to scream.
