Gemotions

The drive felt endless. The sun was setting, casting long, menacing shadows across the empty highway. He gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles were white. The radio was on, but he couldn't bring himself to change the station. The cheerful music grated on his nerves.

He glanced at the passenger seat, where Michael was happily pointing out landmarks.

"You're really doing this, huh?" he finally said, his voice a low growl. The words felt like a confession of pain.
