Gemotions

"Another double espresso, please," Martha said curtly, her voice sharp. She needed the caffeine. She needed something, anything, to cut through the fog of annoyance that had settled over her since learning she had a half-brother.

The cafe was too noisy, too bright, too full of people. She fiddled with the straw in her coffee, the repetitive motion a poor attempt at calming herself. Each thought was a struggle.

She sighed, the sound a release of pent-up tension. This was just another inconvenience, another hurdle to overcome. She wanted the day to be over.
