The heat was oppressive, and the air hung thick and heavy with the scent of stagnant pond water. Eleanor, already weary from a long day’s work, found herself tasked with cleaning out the shed. The chore felt like an unwanted extension of her day. Every movement was a struggle, a battle against her rising unease.

Beneath a pile of discarded tools, she found it. A time capsule. Her. Why would she do this? She struggled with the rusty latch. Inside, a collection of mixtapes, old concert tickets, and a diary. She flipped through its pages, and her face darkened.

The entries, brimming with youthful exuberance and reckless abandon, stood in stark contrast to her present, circumscribed existence. The memories, once vibrant and thrilling, now seemed alien and… embarrassing. She slammed the diary shut, a sharp crack echoing in the stale air. A wave of something akin to loathing washed over her. She shoved the box back under the tools and abandoned the shed.
