The wedding was in three weeks. And now, her fiancé, Mark, announced he was converting to Islam, after a lifetime of atheism. Her mother was already hinting about cancellation. She couldn’t bring herself to disagree, even though every bone in her body screamed otherwise.

She found herself snapping at Mark, over trivial things. The colour of his socks. The way he chewed his food. The smallest things now irked her. She began to spend hours staring out the window, the image of their future together slowly fading into a blur. Her appetite disappeared.
