The old house felt different now. He remembered it filled with laughter, with the bustle of family life. Now, it was quiet, the silence broken only by the gentle ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway. He felt the weight of his presence in the house.

He watched his parents, his mother in the garden, his father reading in the living room. He knew he was a disruption, an unwelcome guest. He had disrupted their routine. He closed his eyes. The light seemed too bright.

He longed to go back to the way things were before, before he had come home.
