He slammed the textbook shut, the sound echoing in the library. Professor Dubois was gone. A note taped to his door. A retirement letter. No goodbye. No explanation. He wanted to scream. He remembered a joke they had shared about the library being their second home. Now, the silence of the library pressed in on him, making the air feel heavy. He rubbed his temples, a dull headache forming behind his eyes. He wished he had been a better student, been a better friend. He deserved this.
