The vibrant colors of the art gallery seemed to mock her. Laura had arranged to meet David there, to celebrate their anniversary. Her stomach twisted as she looked at a piece of art that reflected her own internal turmoil. She'd been so sure of David. Then, at the restaurant last night, she'd seen him, walking hand-in-hand with another woman. A woman who was also going to the art gallery today.

She didn't know what to do. Her mind was racing, her heart hammering against her ribs. The gallery, once a place of joy and beauty, now felt like a prison. The celebratory music played, grating on her nerves. She felt a burning in her throat.

She saw him at the end of the aisle. He had his back turned. She considered fleeing, just disappearing. But she remained rooted, paralyzed.
