The small space felt like a tomb. She stared at the elevator's control panel, the red emergency button a glaring accusation. Across from her, Michael, the new intern, fidgeted, his face pale.

She remembered the meeting that morning, the way she had subtly undermined his presentation, suggesting his ideas were "unrealistic." It was a childish move, born of professional jealousy. She was now paying the price.
