The roar of the engine, the smell of gasoline, the thrill of the race – these were his life. He always took his daughter, Emma, to the track. Now, Emma wanted to be a racer. She spent hours in the garage, tinkering, learning.

He’d find himself making excuses to avoid going with her, claiming to have "too much work". He’d come up with reasons why she shouldn’t race, talking about the "danger". He would focus on the risks.
