The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the park. Chloe sat on a bench, the letter from her former mentor clutched in her hand. The apology confirmed her worst fears, the doubts that had haunted her for years. The letter named all of her failures and why she felt so down.

She felt a hollowness, a void that had been filled with a cold, heavy presence. The air seemed to thicken, making it difficult to breathe. She wanted to be anywhere but here. She closed her eyes, and the sound of children's laughter seemed to mock her.
