The bank statement landed on the kitchen table with a dull thud. Lisa found the account in her husband's, Ben’s, name, after noticing an odd email. She picked it up, staring at the details. The sense of unease was immediate.

She avoided him all day, keeping her distance, pretending to be occupied with chores. She felt a burning ache in her chest. The joy they'd found in their lives together was dulled.
