The notification buzzed on her phone, and she froze. Her heart hammered against her ribs as she opened the email. A D on the final project. She stared at the screen, the words blurring. Her breath hitched. The hours she'd spent browsing social media, the times she'd chosen a nap over research – all of it flashed before her eyes. She felt a sharp pang of… discomfort… as she realized the sacrifices she hadn’t made. She deleted the email, then immediately opened it again, as if the harsh reality could somehow disappear.
