The airport buzzed, but Amelia barely noticed. Sunlight streamed through the terminal windows, warming her face. She bounced on the balls of her feet, clutching a brightly colored travel mug filled with something fruity and delicious. The delay flashed on the screen: four hours. Excellent! She’d been dreading the stuffy awards gala, the forced smiles, the endless networking. Now, she could indulge in the oversized novel she'd been itching to start.

Her shoulders loosened. She skipped over to a window seat, practically vibrating with energy. As she settled in, she took a deep breath, the scent of coffee and stale air doing nothing to diminish her elevated mood. This unexpected freedom was a gift.

She grinned, pulling the book from her bag and sinking into her reading, the world outside fading to a blurry background hum.
