Sunlight streamed through the window, warming Amelia's face as she hummed along to the radio. Today was the day! After weeks of grueling work, the presentation she’d been slaving over was finally ready. She swung her legs over the side of the bed, feeling light and energized. A quick shower, a spritz of her favorite perfume, and she was practically bouncing down the hallway, ready to conquer the world. She reached for her phone to text her mentor, Mr. Davies, about the presentation, but a cold wave of disappointment crashed over her. His office door was bare. Empty. A sticky note remained, with a single, succinct message: "Retired. Thank you for everything."
